Why Your Vape Keeps Leaking — And How to Fix It
Few things are more frustrating than reaching for your vape and finding e-liquid where it shouldn’t be - leaking from the pod, dripping into your pocket, or pooling around the battery.
Thankfully, most leaks are easy to fix once you understand what’s causing them.
Here’s a breakdown of the most common causes of vape leaks and how to stop them — whether you’re using a refillable pod kit or a classic refillable vape pen.
Common Reasons Your Vape Might Be Leaking
1. Overfilling the Pod or Tank
It’s tempting to top right up to the brim — but most pods need a little air space to maintain pressure. Overfilling often causes e-liquid to seep out.
Fix: Leave a small air gap when filling your pod. If using refillable bar salts, aim for 80–90% full.
2. Loose or Damaged Seals
Worn rubber gaskets or a misaligned pod can easily let liquid escape.
Fix: Check your pod or coil seals for wear. Replace if cracked or swollen. Always click pre-filled pods in firmly until secure.
3. Storing the Device Horizontally
When a pod system is laid on its side (especially in heat), gravity can pull e-liquid out through the airflow vents.
Fix: Store your vape upright whenever possible — especially overnight or in transit.
4. Chain Vaping Too Quickly
Taking multiple puffs in rapid succession can overwhelm the coil and cause flooding, leading to leaks.
Fix: Leave 5–10 seconds between puffs to let the wick re-saturate.
5. Pod or Coil Is Worn Out
An old pod or coil loses efficiency and can’t hold e-liquid properly.
Fix: Change pods or coils regularly. For refillables, this is usually every 5–10 days depending on use.
